IIT faculty would be increasingly involved in key decision-making process on the matter of common tests to ensure broader consensus at different levels, HRD Ministry sources today said. Referring to recent protests by faculty to the proposed single test to undergraduate programmes despite the approval of the IIT Council comprising IIT Directors, they said the involvement of faculties would help eliminate differences arising later on. The development assumes significance in the light of IIT Kanpur Senate last Saturday recommending the setting up of a separate committee comprising representatives nominated by Senates of IITs to advise the Joint Admission Board on the nature of the IIT entrance test for 2014 and the process of admission. This committee would also have a sizeable presence of IIT faculties, sources said. The Senate's resolution also comes amid reports that the Ministry is considering the setting up of a new committee to look afresh at the modalities of the single test in the wake of opposition to it and recommend ways to implement it. The committee would be set up involving the IIT faculty and the Council to look at the issue of a common test. Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister Dr C N R Rao is expected to head the committee which will have representatives from IIT faculty and IIT Council.
